Akin Dupont Studios is marking its 10th anniversary with Tenfold, a three-day exhibition bringing work by 16 studio artists to Remote Gallery in Toronto from Oct. 8 to 10. The exhibition is curated by Toronto artist and curator Renato Baldin and centres on the artists’ individual practices as well as the exchanges that develop when people work alongside one another in a shared studio environment.
The opening reception runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Remote Gallery, 568 Richmond St. W. The gallery will then be open from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday. Akin has also posted a public Eventbrite listing for the exhibition.
The 16 participating artists are Anne Kobayashi, Barbara Bailey, Bernadette Peets, Bettina Westwood, Beverley Rosenberg, Carrie Fisher, Eli Moser, Hamid Mohammadi, Loren Kaplan, Mark Buck, Miles Ingrassia, MP Guillot, Robert Simoni, Shayla Bond, Tatjana Reithofer and Veronica Z.M.
Akin’s exhibition statement emphasizes the differences among those practices alongside the relationships built within the studio. The organization says the artists approach distinct questions through their own techniques and visual languages, with Tenfold intended to bring the resulting affinities, contrasts and conversations into the same room.
The artists’ current practices give some sense of that range. Akin describes Anne Kobayashi as a ceramic artist working in stoneware and porcelain, with coiling, slab building and glaze experimentation central to her process. Eli Moser is a painter and ceramicist whose work includes figurative surrealism across acrylic, graphite, ink and watercolour. Shayla Bond is a Canadian fibre artist whose practice draws on quilting, textile design and heritage craft techniques, while Québec-born, Toronto-based MP Guillot works across disciplines and has recently focused on sculptural ceramics. Those descriptions provide background on the artists rather than descriptions of specific works in Tenfold.
Akin Dupont currently has 56 dedicated memberships across four second-floor units and 15 shared membership spaces. The site also includes a ceramics room with a member-run kiln, a vitrine gallery and a shared library, giving artists access to both individual work areas and common facilities.
Remote Gallery is at street level with step-free access throughout the gallery. Akin’s accessibility information says the entrance doors are 37 inches wide and automated by push button, and both gender-neutral washrooms have step-free access, although the washroom doors are not automated.
Royal Winnipeg Ballet opens its 2026–27 mainstage season at Winnipeg’s Centennial Concert Hall on Oct. 8 with Stravinsky Stories, a double bill that brings Alexei Ratmansky’s The Fairy’s Kiss to the company alongside the world premiere of a new Firebird by choreographer Houston Thomas.
