Canadian filmmaker and stage director Atom Egoyan’s revival of Così fan tutte is underway at the Canadian Opera Company, with six performances remaining at Toronto’s Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
The COC describes the staging as a revival of Egoyan’s production, which places Mozart’s opera in a private-school science laboratory and uses the work’s “School for Lovers” subtitle as part of the concept. Johannes Debus conducts, with Marilyn Gronsdal as associate director. Debra Hanson designed the sets and costumes, Michael Walton designed the lighting, and Sandra Horst is the Price Family Chorus Master.
Laurence Kilsby sings Ferrando, with Joel Allison as Guglielmo and Daniel Okulitch as Don Alfonso. Lauren Fagan appears as Fiordiligi, Martina Myskohlid as Dorabella and Tracy Dahl as Despina.
