Chad Kroeger’s role in I Kill the Bear: What’s known about the Nickelback singer’s Crave appearance

Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger is among the performers in Jared Keeso’s new comedy I Kill the Bear, which premieres on Crave on November 6. Bell Media announced his casting in October 2025, when filming was underway in Sudbury, Ontario, and included him again in the ensemble revealed with the show’s trailer this October.

Bell’s initial announcement named Kroeger alongside Keeso, Adrian Holmes, Georges St-Pierre, Jonathan Torrens, Sarah-Maude Beauchesne and Kristin Kreuk as stars of the six-part series. Its more recent release also places Kroeger in the on-screen ensemble, separately from a guest-star list that includes Jann Arden, Brent Butt and Kim Coates.

The comedy follows the Thibaults, a fourth-generation Franco-Ontarian family who have spent a century wrangling bears for film productions. Their latest film is intended to be their last, and their work brings them into contact with an unfamiliar Hollywood environment. Bell identifies Keeso, St-Pierre, Beauchesne and Torrens as the performers playing the family members at the centre of the story.

Who does Chad Kroeger play?

IMDb identifies Kroeger’s character as “The Son of Grizzly Adams,” a name Bell Media has not included in its casting announcements. The broadcaster has confirmed his place in the ensemble without detailing his character’s connection to the Thibaults or indicating how many episodes will feature him.

Kroeger’s screen work beyond Nickelback

Kroeger has appeared in scripted television before, playing himself. In the 2016 episode “The Trial” of The Jim Gaffigan Show, he is credited alongside fellow Nickelback members Mike Kroeger and Daniel Adair. The episode, from the comedy’s second season, follows Jim Gaffigan’s character as he faces a criminal trial; Apple TV lists the musicians as themselves rather than as fictional characters.

He also appears as himself in Leigh Brooks’s Canadian documentary Hate to Love: Nickelback, which traces the Alberta band’s career and its relationship with public criticism. His film-related credits include “Hero,” which he wrote, produced and performed with featured vocalist Josey Scott for the 2002 Spider-Man soundtrack.

His upcoming Crave appearance coincides with a busy release period for Nickelback. The band issued its eleventh studio album, Everything Under the Sun, on October 30 and has announced an international tour for 2027. I Kill the Bear, created and written by Keeso and produced by New Metric Media in association with Play Fun Games, begins its Canadian release on November 6, with two episodes scheduled each Friday through November 20.
