Netflix is heading to Newfoundland for Below, a six-episode creature thriller starring Josh Hartnett, Mackenzie Davis and Charlie Heaton.
The limited series arrives Oct. 8, with all six episodes released on the same day. Created by Toronto-born Jesse McKeown, Below centres on a Newfoundland fisherman whose community is threatened by an unidentified sea creature. The series was filmed in Newfoundland, and Netflix classifies it as a Canadian TV thriller.
Netflix has released the trailer and confirmed the principal cast, six-episode count and Oct. 8 release plan, while individual episode titles and runtimes have yet to be announced.

When does Below come out on Netflix?
Below will be released on Netflix on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026.
Netflix has confirmed that the complete six-episode limited series will arrive that day, rather than following a weekly release schedule.
What time will Below be released in Canada?
Netflix has not announced a special release time for Below. According to Netflix's current release policy, its original TV shows and movies are typically made available globally at 12 a.m. Pacific Time on their release date. Netflix says that when a particular title has a different launch time, that information is listed in its Coming Soon section or on the title's details page.
Unless Netflix announces a different time for Below, it should become available in major Canadian centres at:
12 a.m. PDT — Vancouver
1 a.m. MDT — Calgary and Edmonton
2 a.m. CDT — Winnipeg
3 a.m. EDT — Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal
4 a.m. ADT — Halifax
4:30 a.m. NDT — St. John's
Those times are calculated from Netflix's general midnight Pacific release policy. Netflix has not announced a separate launch time for Below.
Will Below be released all at once or weekly?
Viewers will be able to watch the entire series immediately. Netflix has confirmed that all six episodes of Below will be released Oct. 8.
There is therefore no weekly episode schedule to keep track of, barring a change from Netflix before the premiere.

What is Below about?
Josh Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, a fisherman living in the small Newfoundland community of Snooks Arm. His father's mysterious death decades earlier still hangs over him when an unidentified sea creature begins attacking his hometown.
Calvin is also trying to protect his family, including his son Wade, played by Charlie Heaton. As the situation in the community worsens, he joins forces with visiting marine researcher Fonda Howander, played by Mackenzie Davis, to investigate the creature and the secrets surrounding the island.
The trailer offers a clearer look at what that threat could mean for Snooks Arm. It opens with a house being towed across the water before it is suddenly pulled beneath the surface. McKeown told Netflix that the image was part of his original idea for the beginning of the series.
The sea creature itself remains largely unexplained in Netflix's official material.
Who is in the Below cast?
Hartnett leads the cast as Calvin Penney, a fisherman and single father from Snooks Arm.
Mackenzie Davis plays Fonda Howander, the visiting marine researcher who works with Calvin as the threat develops, while Charlie Heaton plays Calvin's son Wade Penney.
Netflix has also confirmed Willow Kean as Ruth Penney, Ruby Stokes as Mary Penney, Rohan Campbell as Jay Penney and Kaleb Horn as Noah.
The official Netflix listing includes Natasha Henstridge and Mary Walsh among the cast as well. Netflix's current cast guide does not identify their roles.
Who created Below?
Jesse McKeown created Below and serves as showrunner and executive producer. His previous television writing credits include The Umbrella Academy and 19-2.
Netflix also credits Karen Walton, Perry Chafe and Natty Zavitz as writers on the series. The directing team consists of Jamie Childs, Helen Shaver and Stephen Dunn.
Executive producers listed by Netflix are McKeown, Jessica Rhoades through Pacesetter, Chris Hatcher, Hartnett, Childs, Louise Sutton and Sharon Hall.
Where is Below set?
The story takes place in Newfoundland, centred on the fictional community of Snooks Arm.
Newfoundland has been part of McKeown's conception of the series from the beginning. He told Netflix that he had been visiting the province for years and wanted to set a story there.
Where was Below filmed?
Netflix confirms that Below was filmed in Newfoundland.
Some of that filming took the cast onto the water. In Netflix's production coverage, Heaton said the actors worked on the ocean with the Coast Guard and that he was actually kayaking at sea for scenes in the series. Netflix says the production chose to film those sequences on location rather than create the ocean environment entirely with green-screen work.
Is Below Canadian?
Yes. Netflix categorizes Below as Canadian on its Canadian service, where it is listed under both “Canadian” and “TV Thrillers.” The series is set in Newfoundland and was also filmed in the province.

Is there a trailer for Below?
Netflix has released both a teaser and a full trailer.
The July teaser introduced Calvin, Wade and Fonda and established the threat facing the community. Netflix followed it with a longer trailer in September that reveals considerably more of the story while leaving the nature of the creature largely unknown.
