Alanis Morissette has released her first full-length holiday album, Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, with guests including Canadian comedian Martin Short, Brandi Carlile and Steve Martin. The 14-track record arrived Friday, November 6, through Epiphany Music/Virgin Music, bringing together previously released Christmas recordings, additional covers and two new original songs.

The album has been several Christmases in the making. Speaking to Amy Poehler on the November 3 episode of the Good Hang podcast, Morissette said her feelings about Christmas changed after her son was born on Christmas morning. She began releasing a holiday song each year and eventually decided to complete a full record. “I never cared about Christmas and then my son was born Christmas morning and now I really care,” she told Poehler.

Morissette had already issued a four-song Last Christmas EP in November 2023, along with other seasonal singles, including a recording of “O Holy Night” in 2024. Several previously released holiday tracks are part of Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, making this her first full-length album in the genre rather than her first Christmas recording.

The two original songs are “To an Empath at Christmas Time” and “Christmas on the Dancefloor.” Elsewhere, the tracklist includes traditional selections such as “Ave Maria,” “Little Drummer Boy” and “O Holy Night,” as well as Morissette’s versions of Joni Mitchell’s “River,” John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” and Wham!’s “Last Christmas.”

The album’s first single arrived October 9. On “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem,” Carlile joins Morissette on vocals and Steve Martin plays banjo. During her conversation with Poehler, Morissette said recording with Martin and his banjo was something she had wanted to do since she was about 22.

Short joins Morissette on the album’s closing track, “Merry Christmas.” Morissette told Poehler that she and the Hamilton-born performer share an enthusiasm for Judy Garland and that Short suggested the song. The two Martins have separate appearances on the record, with Steve Martin on “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” and Martin Short on “Merry Christmas.”

The remaining featured guests include Amythyst Kiah on “Momma Mary,” Joy Oladokun on “Silent Night” and UK choir Trans Voices on “O Tannenbaum.” The 14 tracks run approximately 51 minutes, according to the album’s Apple Music listing.

Good Weather for Immaculate Conception is available digitally and on CD, with vinyl also advertised through Morissette’s official site. Its release coincides with her Butterfly with a Machete residency at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, with performances scheduled for November 5, 6, 10 and 11.
